Principal Directorate (PD) Communication is responsible for all EPO corporate communication. This includes strategic events and developing and safeguarding the EPO's corporate culture, corporate reputation and its inspiring corporate brand. As executive speechwriter, you will support PD communication to deliver all the goals listed in the EPO's Strategic Plan 2023 and communicate across multiple channels with a variety of stakeholders.
PD Communication is led by a Principal Director and is composed of three directorates: Content Creation, ChannelManagement and Event Logistics.
We are now looking for a talented speechwriter to join our editorial team in Directorate Content Creation.
With us you will:- prepare and write speeches, briefings and other communications for the EPO President
- compose top-level messages based on leadership discussions and integrate those messages into executivecommunications
- edit documents in accordance with strategic directions
- align communications with the ideas and objectives behind EPO corporate strategy
- use a range of channels targeting multiple audiences and applying a variety of styles
- assist the President and his executive management team with speech delivery preparation
- plan and develop executive communications establishing the President as a thought leader
- work closely with colleagues in PD Communication to build executive communications into a high-impactcommunications channel
- act as an interface between topic owners and the President for executive communications
- a proven track record as an executive speechwriter at international level
- the ability to recognise and identify top-level messages and to refine and integrate those messages intoexecutive communications
- the ability to diplomatically bring together different points of view in communication products
- an eye for detail
- the ability to understand differences in nuance and tone of language
- an understanding of the different styles of writing required for different communication products
- the ability to learn quickly, an interest in intellectual property and the patent system and the desire to developauthoritative communications
- a native level of English
- Diploma of completed studies at master's level or – in exceptional cases – equivalent professionalexperience.
- Generally, an excellent knowledge (at least C1) of one official language (English, French and German) andthe ability to understand the other two. In exceptional cases, excellent knowledge (at least C1) of one officiallanguage and working knowledge (at least B2) of another. In such cases, the willingness to learn the thirdlanguage and to reach level B2 within a set time frame would be required.
- Citizenship of one of the member states of the European Patent Organisation.
