About the Job

Deutsche Bank’s Political Affairs (PA) department consists of a global team of experts based in Frankfurt, Berlin, Brussels, London, New York and Washington, DC. Working closely with various stakeholders inside and outside the Bank, Political Affairs Germany aims to

  • Be an internal source of political expertise and help the Management Board and Senior Management identify and manage current and future political and reputational risks;
  • Support the positioning of DB’s business model and strategy towards political stakeholders in Berlin and help navigate DB through politically uncertain times;
  • Build sustainable relationships between DB Senior Management and key political stakeholders and provide a platform for dialogue and exchange; and
  • Create trust and support for DB as a thought leader among German policymakers and advocate for legislative issues in line with the key concerns of Deutsche Bank.

Your key responsibilities

The scope of the role would cover, but not be limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Berlin Office in driving the bank’s political engagement and regulatory advocacy, with particular focus on the Federal Government, the German Bundestag as well as the Governments and Parliaments in the Federal States in Germany;
  • Provide surveillance and monitoring of proposals of new German (and where relevant EU) legislation applicable to the activities of the Bank;
  • Partner closely with colleagues across the global Political Affairs team to help shape and refine DB’s policy goals and appropriate positioning;
  • Provide insight, advice and reporting to internal stakeholders on political and regulatory trends and developments in Germany;
  • Drafting input for briefings, presentations and reports for the Bank’s Management Board/Senior Management;
  • Plan and deliver events, including workshops, panel discussions, and evening receptions in alignment with the Bank’s policy priorities.

Your skills and experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience, ideally within a financial institution, trade association, government institution, or consultancy;
  • Passionate about politics and public policy; prior experience and existing relationships in the Berlin ecosystem considered a strong asset;
  • Deep knowledge of the functioning of the political systems of the Federal Republic of Germany and legislative process, ideally with experience in Financial Services/Banking regulation;
  • Experience with relationship/stakeholder management considered an asset;
  • Good communication (both oral and written) and presentation skills;
  • Fluent English speaker, German at mother-tongue level.
