Trainer Mediation & Negotiation Support (d/f/m)

Your mission
Through delivering trainings - in-person as well as online settings - you enable and strengthen international or national conflict parties’ capacities to navigate through the complex process of negotiations covering pre-negotiation, negotiation and implementation phase. In addition, you support the Berghof Foundation in empowering the next generations of international peace professionals for their work in the field. You will be part of a small team of trainers and supported by a training coordinator.

Overview of the position:
Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time on request // Starting date: As soon as possible // Location: Berlin
Duration: limited contract for 24 months with the objective of long-term cooperation
Department: Department Global Learning for Conflict Transformation

Your main tasks:
  • You conceptualize and facilitate training workshops for different conflict stakeholders in high-level political negotiations & peace mediation
  • You design overarching training curriculums in negotiation and mediation, and possibly national dialogue depending on your expertise
  • You deliver mediation trainings to conflict stakeholders as well as third parties (diplomats, special envoys etc)
  • Furthermore, you support our management to pursue the right strategy for the inclusion of training/capacity building elements into our projects
  • Together with our (senior) advisors in mediation & negotiation you will work on further development of Berghof negotiation/mediation support methods and help identify new opportunities or tools to implement our support in conflict transformation processes
  • In addition, you will help to empower the next generation of Berghof peace experts by developing standard training modules for inhouse use or support the basic trainings on mediation and negotiation inhouse
  • Liaise with international partners or donor representatives when required
  • You help improving the quality of our work by e.g. close cooperation with our M&E- team as well as the HR specialists
Your knowledge, experience & skills
  • You have an above-average degree in international relations, law, social sciences or political science
  • Minimum of five years proven track record of training practice in a relevant field (mediation, negotiation, national dialogue, peace support)
  • A prior professional experience in related roles, is a strong advantage, especially in connection with track 1-1.5 negotiations
  • Your English proficiency is at native speaker level
  • Additional languages (e.g. Spanish, Russian, French) are an asset
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • You are confident with the MS Office package as well as with common online event tools such as Zoom
  • You are professional in addressing aspects of diversity or/and equal treatment within the training context

The contract duration of the full-time (or part-time) position is initially limited for 24 months, depending on the availability of funds, and should start as soon as possible.
